5th International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival
"Polar Rhapsody"

The Non-Commercial Fund of Sculptors of Russia “Edinenie” and Administration of Yamalo - Nenetsky Autonomous Okrug have invited for the first time an Italian Team, represented by Nadia Braito and Gianmario Bonfadini, to participate in the International Festival of snow and ice sculptures "Polar Rhapsody" that will take place in the Siberian town of Salekhard, the only one in the world situated on the Arctic Circle.
Salekhard originated from a Cossack fortress – at the time a fortress in the extreme north of Siberia - built in 1595 on the river Ob, important mean of communication with the North Sea.The festival takes place from November 25 to 2 December and will provide participants from all over the world the opportunity to admire the fascinating beauty of polar Urals, the colours of the Northern Russia and the peculiar ethnic culture of the peoples from Yamal.
7 of the 10 teams selected by the organizing committee will be in competition in the section "ice" and 3 in the section "Snow". These, including the Italian one, will have a block of snow of the size of 3m × 3m × 3m. The foreign teams will be expected in Moscow in the day of November 24 and hosted by the Organisation for the whole period of their stay in the Russian territory.

25 November 2005 – arrival in Salekhard;
26 November 2005 – opening ceremony / entertainment program;
27-30 November 2005 – creation of ice sculptures by the participants;
1 December – closing ceremony / entertainment program;
2 December 2005 – departure from Salekhard;
3 December 2005 – departure from Moscow.
