Art Ways 2009
The management of "Kunstwege", in cooperation with the Culture Commission of Pontresina and Pontresina Tourist Office, invites teams of snow sculptors and light-artists to join into the realization of Kunstwege 2009 this year as well. Choosing an unusual backdrop (sculptures along the cross-country tracks), we deliberately intend to connect the two elements of art and sports. Even pedestrians will be able to reach the scene by winter walking trails. In biting cold, skilled snow artists create delicate or massive sculptures out of a self willed and unpredictable material. The structure and the humidity of the snow, the location and the air temperature determine largely the tools used, the planning and the execution of the respective steps. More than 15 tons of snow will be moved, rebuilt, shaped and carved during 4days and all the work is made with the consciousness that all these exhibits will melt irretrievably sooner or later - and will set blank space for new things.

Becoming - Being -Passing Away
Werden - Sein - Vergehen. The theme 2009 is an homage to Giovanni Segantini, who completed his great masterpiece, the triptych "Werden-Sein-Vergehen", on the "Schafberg" just above Pontresina in 1899. His symbol of the human life-span can also be transferred onto the material snow. It tells the story of its formation, its splendid existence and its retreat to its original state. As a sculpture "Werden - Sein -Vergehen" can be displayed as a metamorphosis in between the physical stati. The sculpture consists of elements which forma valid and esthetic "Ensemble", supported by the lighting effect and the accuracy of its implementation. This kind of theme is chosen to allow creations to mainly abstract working artists. Firstly it is a challenge for the artists and secondly a selection criterion for the jury. They judge the implementation of the theme, the artistic display and originality, lighting effect and well as the proportionality and harmony of the object. The teams who submitted the best drafts will get an invitation to participate in the 3rd "Kunstwege" from 13th to 18th December2009.
